What happened with the Avani Lakhera in 2012
Her father has a big hand behind the place Avani is at today. Born on 8 November 2001 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, there was a big turning point in Avani’s life in 2012. When Avani was 11 years old, she suffered a serious spinal injury in a car accident. After this, she came in a wheelchair forever. However, she never let her weakness come in the way and started focusing on her studies.

Shooting started in 2015
Avani used to focus on studies and her father wanted her to focus on sports as well. His father told her to try both shooting and archery. Avani had told in an interview, ‘In 2015, my father had taken to both shooting and archery and I tried both but After holding the rifle for the first time, I felt more involved in the shooting.

Abhinav Bindra is also one of the reasons for choosing her shooting. Avani lakhera read Abhinav Bindra’s biography ‘A Shot at History’, after which she became more serious about shooting. Avani started training for shooting in 2015 from Jagatpura Sports Complex in Jaipur.

The first medal won with a borrowed rifle
Avani lakhera started her training in 2015 and after few months she participated in Rajasthan State Championship and won gold. Avani had borrowed a rifle from her coach for this championship. A few months later, Avani won the bronze medal in the national championship. Between 2016 and 2020, Avani won the gold medal 5 times in the National Shooting Championship. In the same year in the Para Shooting World Cup held in UAE, Avani lakhera won the silver medal.

Avani’s father Praveen Lakhera is posted in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. He is a RAS officer in the Revenue Department. Avni’s father Praveen said that this is the result of continuous hard work for months.
