Comet NEOWISE was discovered in March 2020 by the NEOWISE spacecraft, which is operated by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. At the time of discovery, the comet was located in the constellation Auriga and was about 103 million miles from Earth. Since then, the comet has been slowly making its way towards the inner solar system, and its closest approach to Earth will occur on July 22nd, when it will be about 64 million miles away.
