Karan was born on 23 November 1983 in Calcutta in a Gujarati family. He did his schooling at Mumbai’s Utpal Sanghvi School Juhu and did his graduation from Mithi Bai College, Mumbai. Karan wanted to make his career in acting, so he learned acting from Kishore Namit Kapoor’s Acting School and London School of Arts. He learned to dance from the famous choreographer Shamak Davar’s dance academy.

Karan started his career in the year 2000 with the famous TV serial Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. In this serial, he played the role of Vigyat. Then in the year 2005, he played the character of Karan in the serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki. In the same year, he also worked in Kesar and Kavyanjali.
He has worked in Kasam Se, Karma Apna Apna, Kasturi, Teri Meri Love Stories, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein and Kasautii Zindagii Kay. He got a different identity from the character of Raman Kumar Bhalla in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein TV serial. People liked the on-screen pairing of Divyanka Tripathi and Karan.
